In Social Studies, we have been examining the Creek and Cherokee cultures of the past. We have learned that instead of using money for goods and services, Native Americans used barter or trade with each other and with settlers.
To give students a better understanding of trading and bartering, we are going to have a trade fair. On Friday, December 10th, the children should bring in TWO goods they are willing to trade. These goods should be inexpensive items ($1 or less) found at home. Examples of goods that may be brought in are: friendship bracelets or other homemade jewelry, stationery, cookies, bookmarks, trading cards, fast food toys, etc.
Please make sure that your children understand that the items will be traded, so items should be something that they don’t mind giving up. Students should bring in several items to trade.
This should be a meaningful learning experience for the children. Thank you for your support in making it a success!
