Check out the site below. There are great activities to practice Mean, Median, and Mode. I always have to refresh myself on all three of these:).
Mean=Average
Mode=Most Common
Median=Middle
Using the following measurements, the mean, median, and mode have been calculated as examples: 13in, 12in, 26in, 10in, 16in, 10in, 34in, 10in, 4in
Mean-add all the measurements together and divide by how many measurements were taken. 135 divided by 9 = 9inches as the average measurement
Mode-line up all the measurements from least to greatest. 4in, 10in, 10in, 10in, 12in, 13in, 16in, 26in, 34in. The most common measurement is 10inches
Median-again, looking at the measurements from least to greatest-4in, 10in, 10in, 10in, 12in, 13in, 16in, 26in, 34in-the middle measurement is 12inches.
Enjoy the games and there's more on the site as well such as Science and English!

One of our Language Arts' standards includes Response to Literature. The link below describes the components necessary for a well thought out response. Please know I want tonight's homework to be simple but effective. The bullet points below should hopefully provide a thorough explaination along with what your child should be able to communicate based on our conversation in class.

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an explorer? Nearly anyone can be an explorer of some kind now. Four hundred years ago, it took a special kind of person.
Explorers had to know how to read maps. They also needed to know how to make maps and keep a written journal. They also learned to read the sky for weather changes and knew the stars by name. They could find their way using the stars, a compass, and an astrolabe.
Sometimes life on board the ship would be exciting, but most of the time it was boring. There was not much to do if you were not working. You would not have a room to yourself. All the crew slept below the deck where it was dark and smelly. They rarely had baths and hardly ever washed their clothes.
At mealtime, they ate hard dry bread along with salted meat, dried peas, and dried fruit like raisins or prunes. Fresh water often went stale quickly.
No one understood the reasons why it was important to eat well. One of the curses of a long voyage was disease. The worst of those was a disease called scurvy. Scurvy happened when people did not get enough vitamins in their food. Vitamin C was most important.

By this afternoon, everyone should have a VERY important paper regarding your Pinnacle username and password. This is your access information to check your child’s grades on Pinnacle at any time throughout the year. Please refer to the right hand side of my blog entitled "Pinnacle" for more information and site access. It would be a good practice to start checking Pinnacle with your child so you can discuss assignments, grades, and/or any missing work. If you see a blank grade under an assignment, please note that indicates I have not yet received or graded that assignment due to absence or late work. Please allow a two week period for those missing grades to be updated. After the two week period, if your child is still missing a grade on the assignment, please have your child discuss the assignment with me so we can ensure all work has been completed. I will update grades weekly as I return graded papers to you. Continue to check Pinnacle for updates on your child’s progress.
Please put these directions in a safe place as I do not have access to your personal information such as username and password.
Please also remember:
ES Pinnacle is not on the Cobb County website like middle and high. It can only be accessed by the Kemp page, by typing in the actual link itself, or by going to my blog.
The instructions on how to use pinnacle and change your password are on the Kemp page.
If you have any questions regarding your account, please contact Mrs. Huffstetler at sandy.huffstetler@cobbk12.org

Who were some of the most important explorers and what were their contributions to the world? We are going to find out in our Explorers unit. Your child will have a graphic organizer that we will fill in as we learn about each explorer. They may bring this home but it is their responsibility to bring it back each day as we will be continuously adding important information about this unit to it.
Attached are a blank and filled in copy of our organizer.

Check out the slide show below. Let me first set the crime scene.
Students enter the classroom and discover...goody bags. Students return from specials...no good bags.
It was not long before students began working together to determine who could have taken our sweet treats. Little did they know that centers would allow them to analyze fingerprints and hair samples of their own to rule themselves out as suspects. Thank goodness we had sweet treats to keep us going as well as fun crafts to give our brains a break from sifting through the evidence.
In the end, I must confess...it was...ME!! I hope everyone enjoys the pictures. There are some funny shots!

So that we are well versed in mutliplication facts, we will begin timed tests over 0-12 facts. I would have your child practice with flashcards or the games below or both so that we are prepared for timed tests and our next math unit which is multiplication. Enjoy:).

Hi!
Attached below you will find the parent information guide provided during Open House. I updated the Behavior Report section so it coincides with the current behavior sheet your child receives each week. I also attached a blank weekly behavior sheet as a reference guide. Please remember these are sent home on Friday and are to be returned the following school day.
Fun Friday is a reward for students who have consistently turned in assignments on time and are behaving as expected for Kemp students.

I'm not quite certain why certain posts are not allowing a link to open into a full page. Until I can remedy the problem, this is a temporary fix that will allow your child to access the resources. You can also save the links into your favorites library to always have on hand.
